Painting Las Vegas

Nestled in the heat of the Mojave Desert, Las Vegas, Nevada was the latest stop on my travel bucket list. What better place to create urban sketchbook paintings than one of the busiest cities in the United States.

The sunsets over the desert mountains with the cityscape in the foreground was breathtaking. As someone who is new to experiencing big cities the bright lights, music, and all the people in one place was astounding.

After four days in the busy city I acquired some great tips for anyone else looking to travel to the City That Never Sleeps.

  1. Always ask your Uber drivers about the local events and shows, especially if they’re from the city you’re visiting.

    • Our drivers gave us the best tips on finding local shows, the best times to visit busier parts of the city, and little hidden gems like the best vegan restaurant I’ve had in a long time - The Modern Vegan.

  2. Go site-seeing before the city wakes up. My favorite part of experiencing Vegas was seeing all the beautiful architecture as the sleepy city, sleeps.

  3. When exploring in or near the Mojave Desert, always pack your water & always take advantage of the rooftop pool.

My time in Las Vegas taught me quite a few things about big city life and how much traffic can fit in a couple blocks radius but it also inspired my latest painting of the Eiffel Tower on the Las Vegas Strip!
