Announcing ‘Studies in Traveling’

The southwest United States has been my inspiration for my newest watercolor painting series, Studies in Traveling.

Studies in Traveling focuses on my experiences traveling across the southwest for the first time in my life. Several months ago I had never been west of the Mississippi River and now I’ve driven all the way from Florida to California and back. This experience changed the way I thought about my art, my goals as a person, and how I saw the natural world around me.

I will have the memories of my travels with me for the rest of my life. Seeing the mountains break the landscape, feeling the cold on my face for the first time in years, car-camping off road and finally crossing that California border will change a person.

In these watercolor paintings I am freezing the moment, emotion, and energy of the space I am experiencing. These fleeting moments might only last for an instant while driving, hiking, or exploring. My goal with this new series is to show the places around me in a new way through watercolor or the materials I have on hand.
